Description
Antique Victorian Simon Bros. Sterling Silver robins egg blue Enamel Floral Guilloche Thimble decorated with pink roses. A lovely piece to add to any thimble collection.Simon Bros Co was established in 1839 by George W. Simons. The City Directory for Pennsylvania listed him as a manufacturer of gold and sterling thimbles and pencil cases. His brother, Peter, joined him in the business and by 1858 George W Simons and Brother are described as employing 60 people and manufacturing many more products in addition to gold and sterling thimbles. In 1893 Simon Bros and Co received a medal and award at the Columbian Exhibition for achieving a variety of designs for gold and silver thimbles. In 1905 the Company name was officially changed to Simons, Bros and Co. They are still in business in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
MEASUREMENTS: approximately 7/8” long x 11/16” wide at widest point (base of thimble).
MARKINGS: the Simon Bros trademark is a fancy “S” located in the interior of the thimble. Also the number “11” which is the thimble size.
CONDITION: antique and preowned. Minor wear. Some expected tarnish. Guilloche is very close to perfect except for a very narrow strip (a sliver size) across the the top of the enamel less than 1/2” wide. (See photos for details). Some wear expected considering it’s age. Overall in very good condition and a wonderful piece to add to any collection.
